Family tradition has it that Peter Kitts Sr. left Wythe County, Virginia and moved to Grainger County, Tennessee in 1807. He moved with his entire family, although some of his children decided to move back to southwest Virginia.
1810 - August 7, 1810, John Kitts (Peter Sr.’s son) is granted a Marriage Bond to marry Barbara Monroe
1814 – Peter Kitts Sr. was on the Grainger County, Tennessee Tax List in Captain Robert D. Eatons’ District. His land was listed as 615 acres.
1815 - Jacob Kitts and Henry Kitts (Peter Kitts Sr.’s sons) were on the Grainger County, Tennessee Tax List in Captain George Monroe’s District. Both of their lands were listed as 50 acres each.
1816 – February 24, 1816, Jacob Kitts and Henry Kitts are listed among 15 individuals who were declared insolvent and the Sheriff “could not find any property to levy for the said (1815) taxes.”
August 20, 1816, Peter Kitts Sr. served as a juror in the trail of David Profitt versus Thomas Breden
