***Please Note: On the handwritten will, the writer began to spell John's last name with a "K"; but after the first stroke, a "G" was written over it, and recorded John's the last name as "Gects." Later when both the inventory and sale of the estate were written, the name recorded as "John Kitts."
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN KITTS Written: November 24, 1801 Proved: January 1802 Robertson Co., TN I John Gects of the county of Robertson and state of Tennessee being very sick but of sound and perfect mind and memory, but knowing the uncertainty of this present life, do think it proper to make this my last will and testament in manner & form following, to wit, first I give to my son Peter Gects the sum of one dollar to be paid out of my estate; I also give to my daughter Elizabeth Plesley or her heirs the sum of one dollar to be paid out of my estate. I also give to my daughter Mary Crane or her heirs the sum of one dollar to be paid out of my estate. Then I give and bequeath to my wife Nancy Gects the half of all my living stocking of horses, cattle, hogs, and also the half of my household & kitchen furniture & the half of my farming utensialz and half of the land & improvements whereon I now live, and the other equal half I give & bequeath to my grandson John Gects the son of Mary Crane of all my living stock of horses & cattle and hogs, also the half of my farming utensials, and half of the land and improvements where I now live, Lastly I hereby constitute James Norfleet my whole executor to this my last will & testament, hereby revoking & disannuling all wills made by me heretofore, ratifying, confirming & establishing this & no other to be my last will & testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & offer my seal this Twenty Fourth day of November One Thousand Eight Hundred & One, sealed, signed, published, pronounced & declared by the (said) John Gectz to be his last will & testament in presence of ____ Benj.
